Anza is a really quick drive from our home base, San Diego. We come here often for spur of the moment day and weekend trips. Easily some of the best sunsets we have ever witnessed have been in this desert. Anza feels pretty remote and lawless. With some solid clearance and a bit of reckless regard for your vehicle, you can find yourself in some pretty interesting areas that hold their own against the more well known national parks and landmarks.
Don’t want to deal with Joshua Tree crowds? Just head an hour south and you can get a similar experience without running into more than 1 or 2 people. We will warn you though, almost every interesting place in Anza Borrego requires a couple mile drive on a bumpy dirt road so a car with clearance is your friend.
You can use this guide to plan your entire trip from start to finish. However, we encourage you to do your own research and hope you use this guide to streamline that process. We can’t fit every spot in this guide, so we just focused on our favorites. Make it your own and enjoy!
