Denali is the tallest peak in North America. It's only a 45 mile hike with just 20k feet of elevation and takes most people 3 weeks to complete. However, if you're feeling lazy like we were, you can just hop in a small cessna airplane, do a couple laps around the peak and be back in 60min.
We ended up taking this flight because our first trip up to Denali, we never even saw the peak for the 3 days we were there. After the first attempt, we were determined to not get skunked again. Even pulling up in the parking lot for this flight, we could barely see Denali, so we were pleasantly surprised to get unobstructed views from the air. This is for sure the best way to check out Denali and appreciate just how massive this mountain chain actually is. It looks big from the ground, but just keeps getting larger as you approach from the air.
While safety briefing the passengers on the ground, your pilot is going to ask if anyone wants to sit shotgun. Now you have a heads up so you can claim the best seat in the house while everyone else stares at each other awkwardly. It's way better to sit shotgun on the approach as the time in the air is longer. If you end up landing on the glacier, the ride out is substantially shorter and just a straight shot back to the runway.
Theres a good chance even if you spend a couple days in Denali, you may never even see it. Pretty much guarantee your chances of seeing the peak of Denali from the air. Be quick on the trigger when the pilot asks "who wants to sit shotgun" and it'll be money well spent.
